Every project needs a clear split of design responsibility. In most contracts the engineer of record designs the structure and specifies loads, materials and performance; the fabricator produces shop drawings and may design connections when the contract assigns this.
Documents we ask for
- Design drawings and the design basis report.
- Applicable codes and the project specification.
- Connection design responsibility, if delegated.
- Coating, inspection and testing specifications.
This content is general technical information. It does not replace project-specific structural design, which must be carried out or approved by a qualified engineer under the applicable codes and the requirements of the authority having jurisdiction.
