Girder bridges carry the deck on two or more longitudinal beams. With few members and simple connections, they are quick to fabricate, inspect and coat.
Typical considerations
- Girder depth affects clearance below the bridge and approach ramp length.
- Lateral-torsional stability during erection may require temporary bracing.
- Vibration comfort must be checked, as light, slender girders can be lively under footfall.
